A QR code luggage tag, as a sticker

The short answer: a TangoTag is a QR sticker, not a hanging tag. Stick it on your suitcase or on the back of the luggage tag you already have. Whoever finds the bag scans it with their phone camera and can call you, text you or leave a note with where the bag is. Your home address is never on it.

Where to put it

  • On the bag. A large sticker (2 in) on a hard-sided case, near the handle, where someone picking it up will see it. Stickers hold best on smooth, hard surfaces; fabric is a poor surface for any sticker.
  • On your existing luggage tag. A medium (1.5 in) on the back of a plastic or leather tag. Keep the tag, swap the printed address for the code.
  • Inside the bag. One more on the inside of the lid or a pouch, in case the outside gets scraped or the tag is torn off.
  • On what goes in the bag. Headphone case, laptop, passport cover, toiletry bag. Every sticker in a pack has the same code.

Why not just write your address on the tag?

A luggage tag is read by everyone who handles the bag: other passengers at the carousel, hotel staff, anyone walking past. A printed home address tells all of them where you live, often while you're away from it. A printed phone number is better, but it goes out of date when you change numbers, and it gives the finder one way to reach you.

A QR sticker shows nothing until it's scanned. Then the finder sees what you chose: Call and Text buttons, your email, or just a form to leave a note. You can change any of it later with the setup code on your sheet, without touching the sticker.

What a finder sees

Say your bag is left at a hotel or comes off the wrong carousel. The person holding it points their phone camera at the sticker and a page opens: "You found something of Sam's." If you show your number, it leads with Call and Text buttons. Either way they can leave a note, like "handed it to the front desk", and share their location. You get an email right away with their message, and a map link if they shared where they are. They don't need an app or an account. Open the demo finder page to see it.

If an airline has your bag, it runs its own process: report it at the airline's baggage desk and keep your claim receipt. A sticker gives anyone else who comes across the bag a direct way to reach you.

What it doesn't do

It isn't a tracker. There's no GPS and no battery, so it can't tell you where your bag is. It works when a person finds the bag and scans the sticker. Plenty of travelers use both: a Bluetooth tracker to see where the bag is, and a sticker so whoever has it can reach them.

Sizes that fit

Each pack of 14 has four sizes (2 large, 3 medium, 4 small and 5 extra-small). The large ones fit a suitcase, the medium ones a luggage tag or carry-on, and the small ones go on headphone cases, chargers and passport covers.

$5 for the pack, one payment, shipped to US addresses. No subscription.

Questions

Is a TangoTag a luggage tag?

No, it's a sticker. Stick it on the bag itself or on the back of the luggage tag you already have. It does the job of a tag: whoever finds the bag scans it and can reach you.

What does someone who finds my bag see?

A page that says they found something of yours, with what you chose to show: Call and Text buttons, your email, or neither. They can always leave a note with where the bag is, and you get it by email. They never see your home address.

Does it track my bag?

No. There's no GPS and no battery. It works when a person finds the bag and scans the sticker. If you want to see where a bag is, use a Bluetooth tracker too.

Which size goes on luggage?

The large sticker (2 in) for the side of a suitcase, and a medium (1.5 in) for a luggage tag or carry-on. Each pack has both.

Put one on every bag before your next trip.
