Delta lost and found: how to get it back

The short answer: if you left it on a Delta plane, at a Delta gate or counter, or in a Delta Sky Club, report it on Delta's lost and found page and choose "Report items left onboard aircraft, in gate area or in Delta Sky Club." If you left it at the security checkpoint, TSA has it, not Delta.

A checked bag that didn't come off the belt is a delayed bag, not lost and found: report it at the Delta Baggage Service Office before you leave the airport.

Checked on October 28, 2026 against Delta's baggage and lost item page. This is an independent guide from TangoTag, not Delta Air Lines's own page, and policies change, so confirm anything important there.

Where you lost it decides who has it

  • On the plane, at the gate or counter, or in a Sky Club: Delta. Delta's page says it will "do our best to locate and return it to you."
  • At the security checkpoint: TSA at that airport. Find its contact on tsa.gov's lost and found page.
  • Anywhere else in the terminal: the airport's own lost and found. For Los Angeles, see our LAX guide.

Report something left on board

  1. Go to Delta's lost and found page (linked from Delta's baggage page, under "Lost Items on Plane or Airport").
  2. Choose "Report items left onboard aircraft, in gate area or in Delta Sky Club."
  3. Describe the item as specifically as you can: brand, color, case, stickers, anything written on it, and your seat number.
  4. Submit the report and keep its reference. Delta doesn't say on that page how long it searches or holds items.

Delayed, damaged or lost checked bags

  • Delayed: file a delayed baggage report at the Delta Baggage Service Office at the airport and save the file reference number. Delta says that if it finds the bag within 5 days of your arrival, it delivers it to you based on that report.
  • Lost: Delta says a checked bag not found within 21 days of your arrival is likely lost, and it can help you get reimbursed.
  • Damaged: report it to the Baggage Service Office within 6 hours of arrival for domestic tickets, or within 7 days for international tickets, or Delta says the claim won't be accepted.
  • By phone: Delta's baggage page lists 1-800-325-8224 within the U.S., or 404-209-3034 if toll-free isn't available.

If it doesn't turn up

  • Check with TSA and the airport too, in case it was found somewhere you didn't expect. A good description helps every desk.
  • Keep your boarding pass, seat number and report reference together; you'll be asked for them.
  • For an expensive item, check whether your home or travel insurance covers it, and file a police report if it was taken.

Next time

A lost-and-found form is where things wait. Something with a way to reach its owner usually goes home faster: the cleaner, driver or passenger who finds it can contact you directly instead of hoping it reaches the right desk.

A TangoTag sticker on your bag, keys or laptop does that. Whoever finds it scans the code with their phone camera and can call, text or leave you a note, without seeing your address. It isn't a tracker and can't show where something is; it only helps when a person finds it and scans it. How it works.
